Police arrested two suspects in possession of drugs in Upington in separate incidents
Police in Upington has intensified efforts to combat the illicit drug trade, resulting in the arrest of two men in separate incidents on Thursday, the 17th September 2026. Police spokesperson Lieutenant colonel Thabo Litabe says dagga with an estimated combined street value of more than R276 000-00 was seized during the operations. Litabe says both suspects are expected to appear at Upington magistrates’ court soon. Litabe says in the first incident, police acting on intelligence-driven information, intercepted a vehicle along Swartmodder road in Upington and found a 55-year-old man in possession of dagga with an estimated street value of R246 500-00. He says in a separate incident police received information regarding a foreign national who was allegedly selling dagga in the Upington Central Business district, police arrested him and seized dagga with an estimated street value of R30 000-00, as well as a small scale believed to have been used in the weighing of the drugs.
