Prieska green ammonia project among South Africa’s priority projects

The planned Prieska Power Reserve has been selected as one of the first six priority projects in South Africa’s national green hydrogen programme. The multi-billion-rand project plans to use solar and wind power to produce green hydrogen and more than 80,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually during the first phase.

The project has yet to reach a final investment decision and financial close before construction work can begin. If implemented, the developers estimate the project could create more than 400 direct jobs, as well as opportunities for skills development and local procurement. Prieska is the only Northern Cape project among the six initial priority projects announced as part of the National Green Hydrogen Compact.
