The Northern Cape department of education can confirm that schooling was resumed this morning

The Northern Cape department of education has conducted an assessment across all districts following heavy rainfall recorded in certain parts of the province, to determine whether schools will be able to operate normally on Tuesday, the 15th September 2026. Provincial spokesperson Mr. Geoffrey van der Merwe says the assessment was undertaken to establish the extent to which the heavy rainfall has affected schools and the ability of learners and educators to attend school, whilst normal teaching and learning can safely resume. Van der Merwe says the department acknowledges that the closure of schools in the Namakwa district, as well as the high absenteeism recorded in the ZF Mgcawu district, has resulted in a loss of valuable teaching and learning time. He says the department will therefore engage with the relevant district offices on the development and implementation of a curriculum recovery plan. According to information, where examinations have been affected, new dates will be provided to allow affected learners to complete their preparatory examinations.
