Joseph Moeti received 15 years’ imprisonment for the attempted murder of his former girlfriend in Kathu regional court
A 53 year old man Joseph Moeti was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for the attempted murder of his former girlfriend by Kathu regional court on the 5th September 2026. The incident was reported to the Kathu police on the 19th January 2026, when a 63 year old victim, Eva Witbooi opened a case of attempted murder against her former boyfriend. Police spokesperson Lieutenant colonel Thabo Litabe says the victim was walking in the street with a friend when the accused allegedly suddenly emerged from a yard and approached her while armed with a knife. Litabe says he pursued her, caught up with her, stabbing her on the shoulder and back. He says she sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital in Kuruman for medical treatment. He says the South African police service in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of a 53-year-old man to 15 years’ imprisonment for the attempted murder of his former girlfriend in Kathu.
