Namakwa district police engaged community members on the sensitive issue of suicide and the importance of community support on the 8th September 2026. Police spokesperson captain Ivan Magerman says during the discussion police highlighted the support mechanisms available to SAPS members through the employee health and wellness program. Magerman further assured community members that suicide is not currently regarded as a prevailing concern within SAPS Namakwa, while emphasizing the importance of providing support to members and communities who may be affected by suicide or related challenges. He says the discussion also provided an opportunity to explain the procedures followed by the police when cases involving suspected suicides are reported. According to information, community members were encouraged to play an active role in supporting one another and to remain vigilant about the wellbeing of family members, friends, colleagues and community members.
