Pofadder regional court sentenced a 26 year old man to five years’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years
The Namakwa district management has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of a 26-year-old male accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old female in Pella. The incident occurred on the 23rd March 2025 at five o’clock in the afternoon in Mountain Street, Pella. Police spokesperson captain Ivan Magerman says the investigation was conducted by constable Julie-Ann Jaars, who diligently followed up on all available leads, resulting in the suspect being traced and arrested. Magerman says the Pofadder regional court found the accused guilty of sexual assault in terms of section 5(1) of the criminal law (sexual offences and related matters) amendment act, 2007 (act 32 of 2007). He says the court sentenced the accused to five years’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, on the 7th September 2026 on condition that he does not commit a similar offence during the period of suspension. The court further declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm, ordered that his name be entered into the national register for sex offenders, and declared him unfit to work with children.
