A 43 year old woman Alsa Van Aswegen received R10 000-00 fine
The Kimberley regional court recently sentenced a 43-year-old woman, Alsa Van Aswegen for cyber fraud, cyber forgery and uttering on the 11th March 2026. Police spokesperson sergeant Dikeledi Gopane says the accused, an admitted attorney, advertised a holiday accommodation property situated in Hartenbos in the Western Cape on Facebook, falsely claiming ownership of the property. Gopane says the advertisement included pictures of a cottage which were sent to the complainant. She says a payment was paid into the suspect’s bank account. She says the accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of R10 000 or three years’ imprisonment. According to information, half of the sentence five thousand rand or 18 months’ imprisonment was suspended for three years.
