World read aloud celebrated under the theme: “My story, My language.”

Masiza Primary School based in Kimberly came alive today with storytelling and cultural pride today as the provincial office joined learners, teachers and the School Governing Body (SGB) in celebrating literacy under the theme “My story, My language.”

The programme highlighted the richness of South Africa’s multilingual heritage, with stories read aloud in English, Setswana and isiXhosa. These shared reading moments created an atmosphere of excitement and inclusion, encouraging learners to engage with stories in their home languages while appreciating those of others.

Learners were also introduced to the Nal’ibali and SLED story A New Friend, which incorporates South African Sign Language (SASL). As the country’s 12th official language, SASL’s inclusion underscored the importance of accessibility and inclusivity in reading and learning spaces.
