The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and Universities South Africa (USAf) will launch two online initiatives aimed at supporting the development of emerging academics and researchers at South Africa’s public universities. These initiatives are part of the DSI-sponsored Advancing Early Career Researchers and Scholars (AECRS) project and a direct response to findings of a 2018 USAf study that uncovered the struggles of emerging scholars at public universities. Thuso Resources is a repository of key information resources and programmes available for capacity building and support for emerging academics, while Thuso Connect serves as a virtual meeting place to connect emerging researchers with experienced mentors. The launch will take place on Thursday, 18 May 2023.
