Tuck Shop Owner Sought in Connection with Fatal Assault

A tuck shop owner remains at large after allegedly fatally striking a 29-year-old customer, Kevin du Pont, with a hockey stick in Galeshewe on August 9. The incident occurred after the shop owner accused du Pont of using a counterfeit note to purchase items. Du Pont suffered severe head injuries and died on August 29, leaving behind a partner and six-year-old daughter. Community members are concerned that the suspect, known only by his nickname, may be a flight risk. Operation Fiela chairperson Thabiso Louw facilitated a meeting between tuck shop owners, community members, and police to discuss the case. The police have called for calm and advised against harming the suspect. The closure of local tuck shops in an attempt to force the suspect to surrender has caused inconvenience for some community members, particularly the elderly and sick. A memorial service was held for du Pont, and grieving family members are seeking answers and justice. The police are urging the community to assist in the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward
